Thinking about my blog this week has let me to number of conclusions. With no specific topic in mind I've been noticing some small details about my surroundings.
There are an astonishing amount of "Kebab Banks" in the Melbourne area. This, almost like a North American version of schwarma, caters to the midnight intoxicated. Middle eastern cuisine has gotten a bad rap (no pun intended). Pronounced "K-BAB" in Australian, the banks are small dingy trailers, run by the sort of person you'd imagine be living out of a trailer. Tucked in alley ways, with faded signage surrounded by fluorescent lighting, the banks only accept cash. Word of the wise, is to come prepared, or you will require an escorted late night trip to the ATM. Shut during the day, Kebab banks light up the night sky and are in full service by 8pm. Drawing crowds from near and far I wonder how these places make a profit? I never thought buying street meat from illuminated trailer at dark would be something of the norm. Apart from the reality of the situation, I find it quite fascinating and plan on documenting my findings in my final folio of Digital Fine Art Photography. I feel this is an area of Melbourne that gets over-looked and I'm determined to get to the bottom of it! To admit I'm partially scared of my findings, but as I drive through the suburbs each bank has its unique way of drawing its customers. Whether you've finished pumping gas, starving after a days work, in the mood for something greasy, or its the shortest meal from the bar. K-BAB banks might serve more of a purpose than meets the eye. The investigation is in it's beginning stages, and observations will reported on a later date. So until then, I'm keeping it under raps for now.
(Sorry couldn't help myself)
