We had finally touched down in Melbourne after traveling 55 hours from Detroit on Sunday Night. It was a Wednesday morning in Melbourne and the weather was gorgeous. The 15 hour flight before hand was bearable and the only issue was the lack of taste in the airline food, plus that I hadn't seen the Internet and my phone had died since we left LA. Lucky, I found a free Internet service in Sydney to tell Elena ( my homestay rep) to come pick us up. Both Chelsea were ready for a good shower after wearing the same outfit for three days and living off then called "food" they provided on the plane. Entering customs effortlessly we now realized that our bags could have been on a totally different flint being that we flew with united airlines oppose to Quantas. And just to tack it to the list, it was confirmed our bags had been lost too. Feeling like someone transported me to another planet, luckily Elena was waiting for us at the exit as she swerved through Melbourne traffic. I felt like I was having a heart attack as we merged into the lanes of the opposite side of the road. So, stuck with absolutely no luggage, we went out for Chinese food, bought some outfits and tried to look alive.
I was able to open a bank account at ANZ as John the bank rep tried to sell each of his 3 sons to me. I was dying laughing and he even joked that I should come over for roast tonight. As Sheila (ironically) cashed my travelers cheque we headed back to Elena's house for showers, food and warm beds. Melbourne is gorgeous, green, clean and the landscape is beautiful. Next stop: the city.
