I have been a busy bee!
So over the past 3weeks or so our agenda has been SO damn full!We have barely had much time to just sit. It is amazing that I have already been here for 10weeks! Time is certainly not waiting about...the school holidays are apparently starting on Monday and that means holidaaaaaaaaays! Wooooooooooooo!
So what's the happs been in Kitega town? Well, we had the pleasure of Blair (The Tall One) coming to visit us for the weekend, which was soooooo good. We just bummed about, showed him the school we work in and he couldnt help but laugh as he works in a school which is pretty much like a palace...but anyway, Blair had the delight of spending the two nights on the top level of our triple decker bumk bed because he is around 7000 feet tall he didnt actually quite fit it it. Watching him climb into the bed was hillarious, but not as funny as watching him get out of it. Unfotunatley Blair (like Molly) fell down a drain and he also tripped up in the middle of the road and his foot was pretty much killed by all the trauma so he went back to his project with the addition of a very big bandage on his foot. Hopefully he had a good time, he provided us with two days of entertainment. His partner Gregg did not come...he hates Scottish people. Haaa kidding. IM KIDDING.
THEN, the weekend after that (Halloween weekend) we were invited to Becky and Naomis beautiful project on the West side of Kampala, Mubende. It was the first time Molly and I had ever been West and it was also the first time we experienced the new taxi park. That was awful. Just awful. I don't understand, usually the word "new" usually implies that it would be better than the "old" one. But oh no, not in this case. It was just...awful. We were finding the taxi to get to and then all the taxi conductors began to fight over us becasue they all wanted us to get in their taxi, at one point i had two Ugandans on either side arguing whilst pulling my arms as if I was a cracker. When we finally got to the taxi we waited for AN HOUR, a fricking hour to leave. I thought I was going o melt like a chocolate teapot. The journey took around 3 hours. It was...umm....different. They havent actually cemented the road yet so it was just constant bumps for three hours. And for some reason the driver thought it would be a good idea to drive on the other side of the road for most of the way, playing chicken with lorries that we should have just not been fighting with. When we got to St Zoes I was in a state of shock when I was looking at the school before me. It was massive. When you are use to having no walls and barely any children, the noise they made was enough to send a spark of jealousy through your body. There was a tournment of volleyball, football and netball on and it was amazing seeing just how many kids took part. Plus the relationship Becky&Naomi have with the children was amazing. When they leave next year, the following volunteers will have a lot to live up to. And the following years vols will also have a awesome house to stay in. They have a real toilet. That's all im going to say becasue if I begin talk about their house this whole entry will just be about how amazing it was. On Saturday the school did a talent show and it was amazing. Most of them mimed and there was a few cross dressers and the performers had a habbit of pulling up one of the mzungu members of the audience (there were 12 of us) and after the talent show there was a dance where the children liked to dance 'close close'. Saturday night soon lead into sunday morning and we went to our beds at around 4am. VERY late for us! And on Sunday we went back home.
We have also been to Benny and Finns project in the east. SO east infact that it is on the boarder of Kenya and we actually went for a walk in Kenya, just for 10 minutes to get some parrifin. How funny 'yeah we're just going for a stroll in Kenya...' We also went camping up the biggest hill i have ever seen in my life. I HATE walking with a passion. I thought I was going to die. It took THREE hours to climb this bloody hill and i was thinking all the way up 'its not going to be worth it, im climbing the damn hill in the blistering heat to look at other hills. GREAT' but i couldn't have been more wrong. The view was amazing. There are no words that could ever do enough justice to how beautiful it was. What I was looking at was utter perfection and is going to remain one of the highlights of my gap year. But of course we couldnt look for long becasue it began to rain. A lot. And we had to put our tents up...the village we were in were amazed, they stood and watched us for hours on end wondering what these 4white people were doing with their material houses...it got annoying as we were not doing anything interesting at all, but we just ignored them and made a big camp fire and made some fried potato chips and tomato and pepper sauce. It was just so perfect.
This past week it was Mollys 18th wooooooooooooo! so we went to kampala with the intention of going to the cinema but it was really expensive so we just went out for lunch and had a look round the shops. We went into the book shop and it was so brittish it was unreal. I actually thought that when i walked out the shop i would end up on Union Street...but alas I didnt. Its unreal how like home Garden City is, it boggles my mind everytime I go...
We were kept company by 5pairs of vols at our project for Mollys birthday and the people in Kitega had a heart attack when they saw how many white people there were 14 of us, probably the most they have ever seen. Molly and I had the task of feeding them all: pasta and tomato sauce sufficed. Then on Saturday we all headed to Jijna, we were trying to get a taxi and noone was really stopping then this one taxi stopped made everyone in it get off so we could get it. How funny. Felt pretty bad though. We stayed at Explorers Backpckers and it is cool! HOT SHOWERS! I had some chocolate cake, southern comfort, a normal bed...it was insane. We all went out for tea and then hit the cassion where Gregg bought me a drink for 11000ush, he was not happy. But it was really funny. The casion was hillarious! It had a live band and everything, but of course we wanted to dance! So we followed the lead of some Germans to a club. Oh my daaaaaaaays it was the coolest place ever! We danced for hours! They even played my favourite Eminem song, so i was a very happy bunny! ALl of this was to celebrate Mollys birthday, hopefully she had a memorable time.
My Project
There have been some problems. I'm not actually sure what is going on just now. But the kids are great and we have been trying to prepare them best we can for their exams which are starting in less than 24hours. The exams should last three days and then its holidays!
Next week we are going white water rafting. I can't actually wait!
