I set off early from Vang Vieng with no fixed destination in place. The roads were busier than I had been used to but still the traffic was minimal. The hill were only gentle and fairly small, generally a good easy cycle. I think my fitness is coming back and my legs are getting used to the weight of my packs. I made my top speed today going down one of the hills 54km- that was pretty good fun! There was lots of road maintenance going on, they were stopping all the big vehicles going through only allowing bikes and scooters, all the tourists had got out of the busses and were milling around. As I cycled through I got cheered- I felt like I was in the tour de France! I did 60k before stopping for lunch for a couple of hrs. As I was thinking about leaving another cyclist steadily swept past, this was the first person I'd seen going the same way. I finished up my lunch and packed my kit up, soon enough I caught him up. A vintage dutch cyclist who I ended up spending the next 2 days with. We got chatting and before I new it we'd gone 30k, making the daily total 90k. He diagnosed my bike problem as ' probably the pedal, but the noise is annoying!' i took it to a garage to investigate, and was rather embarrassed to find the pedal was totally loose and about to fall off! We stayed in the quiet town with 1 guest house and 1 restaurant. Next morning we set off for Vientienne, even at 8 am the temperature was 27o. We got to the capital at 12.30 in a blistering 38o- I was struggling.
Vientiane is a small city on the Mekong river, the other side is Thailand. Not much seems to go here. I managed to find a nice room in a house attached to a yoga studio for the next 4weeks whilst doing my voluntary work.
This morning I took a 25k ride out to the Budah park. A park on the river bank full of Budahs? Was nice! Beautiful to see the sun rise!
