Well the first few days in Paris I survived on baguettes, cheese and yes a little wine. The reason was not purely because they are good but Paris is that expensive that eating only these can make it somewhat affordable. This is the most expensive place yet on my travels for accommodation and food.
However, I can't complain too much because there is a lot to see in Paris which makes it a very cool city. My first couple days consisted of just simply walking around trying to get accustom to the country I will stay at for the longest in my adventure. Highlights included seeing l'Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower and just all the gorgeous European style architecture everywhere. Even the bus stops are made of a beautiful historical building. I must admit that at first glimpse, the Eiffel Tower was pretty damn ugly looking. Just like most things, the more you learn about it and then see it up closely, I began to really like it. The roads leading up to the Arc de Triomphe is very lively (filled with very high end products which I certainly can't afford) with a really cool atmosphere.
One of the evenings, I was treated to a wonderful supper. I think it was the first steak I've eaten in my travels. The restaurant that my two Parisians, Franck and Dominick, took me too had a picture of a cow and you chose specifically which part of the cow you want. Ordering at a nice Parisian restaurant consists of choosing your meat (which like I mentioned before can get quite pricey), then you choose your side dishes such as potatoes, rice, salad, etc. And each one of these side dishes costs a little extra as well. Not to mention that Parisians love their wine and desert. A big thanks to Franck and Dominick for taking me out and experiencing good French cuisine. I hope to hang out with them again during my time in France.
On my third day in the city, I met two Germans Hendrick and Dawid who were a lot of fun. We walked around to another part of the city and got a good view of the city from a church at the top of a hill. We then walked along the old red light district which consisted of the Moulin Rouge and various sex shops. We got a very classy shot of us sipping wine just outside the Moulin Rouge. We also briefly popped in to the cafe where the film Amelie was filmed.
After a good evening with the two Germans, I sat down to eat breakfast with them and asked what their plan was for the morning. They explained to me that they were going back home. I asked if I could join them, they agreed to take me on the autobahn and the rest is history...
