Sunburnt and saddle sore, some'll say it serves me right for cheating! So my first full day here in Siem Reap after my motorised arrival. I woke early with a plan of watching the sun rise over the temples, however it had been raining all night and the sky was still grey. I decided to take advantage of the cool(er) weather and ride out 13k to one of the smaller temple complexes. As I wasn't doing 'serious' cycling I chose not to take my regular precautions of multi layers of high SPF, cover up clothes and the lovely Lycra shorts, instead opting for skirt, flip-flops, single layer of SPF20 thin White shirt for 'protection' sleeves rolled up... Silly me! Think I'd know by now how sensitive I am. The ride was good flat roads, nice temperature- always good to get out without the packs on the bike. I arrived at the temple eager to get in and explore, when the fun police turned up and asked for my ticket... 'I'd like to buy a 3day pass pls'... No can do here lady, you have to get one from the main ankor temple 20k away!! The chap then tried to scam me by selling me a pass with someone else's photo on, a month out of date!! Mighty annoyed Bikey and I sulked off. As it turned out I had a really nice ride around the outside of all the temples, in the area taking about 50k in total. It was nice to be away from the tourists and out in the countryside.... Maybe Cambodias not as scary as I've been lead to believe? Maybe I'll get to look inside the temples tomorrow?
In my haste to put bikey back together after his taxi ride I had not lined the saddle up straight so when I got home I had a huge sore on my thigh- nice! Plus new tan (burn) lines, now making 3 horizontal lines across my thighs all varying degrees of brown- really gonna have to do something about that before I get to the beach, and the most ridiculous burn lines on my forearms where I had my sleeves rolled up- yes different levels on each arm! So I'm rocking a really hot look of White, slightly off White and red with wild blonde hair- nice!
