Got into Melbs late evening, caught the skybus from the airport into the city station.
then walked about 10mins to Nomads hostel.
After checking I ponder on outside and then went to a supermarket to buy supplies.
Melbs is very similar to London , has small streets and individual shops that reminded me of Carnaby street and parts of Camden.
The city itself is much smaller than London but one of the largest in Oz, it is really busy too with trams, buses, cars everywhere.
Spent 4 days here and in those days I visited the Neighbours set and met Kim, aka Libby from Neighbours.
The tour cost $50 but thought I had to do it as it is such a big thing in the UK and also Sam would have killed me as she is the biggest Neighbours fan!
Also visited Ramsey Street which is called Can oak road or something like that. The houses are what are used in the filming but they are residential houses so they no filming inside.
Unfortunately didn't get to see any filming or any other cast members.
Spent another day on a tour doing the Great Ocean Road and I made sure that Split point was on the list. If you don't know what is at split point, well let me tell you , it's a lighthouse where Around the twist was filmed, so did some jumping pictures in front of it.
Then headed down the ocean road which was really spectacular so many rock formations and have to say they were really impressive. Obviously the most famous The 12 Apostles, well actually never were twelve, I think only 7 or 8 remain now, I did count but have forgotten, also stopped at London bridge, again really impressed.
The whole drive around was beautiful along the coast really worth the $95 for a whole day.
Even better was that there was on me and another two people on the tour so could take our time.
The tour guide Chris was brilliant showed us wild Kangaroos, wild Koalas and parrots.
would totally recommend him to anyone going to Melbourne, his tour is called Wild Wombat Escapes.
Spent the other days just walking around the city and being a tourist the great thing about Melbs is that there are two free mode of transport; the Tram and Bus which is excellent as the weather was horrible, wet and cold, just sat on these and saw the city. Stopped off at Queen Victoria Market and had a butcher around, just a good old market selling all sorts of things, mostly brought from South East Asia.
I stayed at Nomads hostel which was in a really excellent location however the inside could do with a refurbishment, was cold and horrible. If they did it up and put in heating it would be so much better, but for the price and location couldn't complain, a mere £11 a night which is a bargain in Australia.
So that completes my 7 weeks in Australia, its been interesting, I didn't have much of an expectation but it did kind of leave me disappointed, really thought it would be up to standards with the UK, but its is far from. For example the fashion is really behind times, not everyone is friendly and the biggest thing people are obese which I found really strange, also they were more into being like Americans then us British. These are just my thoughts and opinions from what I have seen.
Overall I did really enjoy coming here, saw some wicked things like the Wallaman falls, the amount of animals I have seen has just been amazing and would not change what I have seen here.
