Week 7 still
On Thursday 17th November 2011 headed out of Guangzhou to Hong Kong. Was only a 2 hour journey into Hong Kong. The weather changed once we hit HK. Went from nice sunshine to raining and a grey HK. However when we got out it was quite warm.
I spent 4 days in HK. I have to say i really love Hong Kong defiantley a place i will come back to you. The city is alive and thriving and always seems busy doesnt matter what time of the day or night it is. But expensive when on a budget.
I was told about Octopus cards by Alex so got one, which is similar to a Oyster card however can be used to pay for shopping, at the Peak etc. Was very handy as it means you didnt have to queue up buying tickets you just stroll straight in to the metro.
The skyline in Hong Kong is the most impressive one I have seen so far. Especially at night looks so good. On another day we took the tram to the Peak and what a view it was spectacular. Went to the Bank of china building and went to the 43rd floor and viewed HK form there as well before the Peak. Was good to see but not as good as the Peak. But it was free so you may as well take advantage as there aren't many free things to do.
Also took a trip over to Aberdeen which is famous for the river houses. Took a boat trip around where these people lived and also saw very expensive speed boats lined up. Spent time at the markets, the night market, jade market, however this was closed when we went. But also went to the famous ladies market, the markets all seem the same to me in china and HK. Lines of stalls selling the same stuff.
We took the Star Ferry across instead of the metro to make a change and had a look at the @Avenue of Stars' had alot of actors i didnt recgonise but the best one has to be Bruce Lee. Later on we went back to the viewing platform where you can see the skyline for a light show, playing was some sort of cantonese music, not something i would listen to really. Missed most of the light show that lasted 15 minutes as i was too busy trying to get a good picture of the light show, but i didnt get one. oh well...
Also i have never seen so many chinese people run from a little bit of rain whilst the light show was on.
We also spent a day in Disneyland which i was impressed with. Went on a few rides, felt like a kid again. Even had pictures taken with Disney Characters. On the way to Disneyland you have to take a train and the windows are shaped as Mickey mouse which i thought was brillaint. The fire work at the end of teh night over sleepy beauty castle were very good, made it feel magical especially as they had all christmas decorations everywhere and were throwing around fake snow.
You can really see the British influence in HK. People don't try and drive into you when you're crossing the road at a crossing. Also they drive on the correct side. Everything is easy to find as it's all signposted. So was nice to be in HK after being in China for 7 weeks. But have spent a lot of money in 4 days though.
