My dearest Footscray,
It is only days til we part and the pain is aching at my every being. How will life cease to exist? To live in a world where you are not surrounding my every being. Engulfing me with your sights, your sounds, beauty and smells.
Oh your smells, how they linger, linger and multiply. By each passing alley way, to the garbage juice that builds on my shoes. You leave a memory, a memory so close to my heart and to my soles. In the depths of the night, I risk my own life, just to be near you. Though shadows lurk and predators stalk, I challenge our love day by day. Each waking morning I'm reminded of your presence; the howling of dogs and dealing of drugs never separate our intoxication with each other. You Footscray, cater to a fallen world , a world never witnessed before. No matter the hour your dealings never fail. Though nations may crumble and time may pass, our love stays strong. In midst of storm and disarray, confusion and language barrier, your love never ceases. Like the smell of a small asian market, your love is a wave of emotions that cloud my vision even as I pass. The heat surrounding has faded, and the brisk cold air fills my being, signalling a time of departure. What will I do my dear Footscray? How will I cope? Boarding the tram, I'm engulfed, guarded from the outside world. I run to the safety of whatever may arise or block my path. I look straight ahead, I look to to avoid those around me. Placed in the very core of your heart, our daily acquaintances match non other. Your escarpment details the rocky road we've travelled together. Through robbery and murders, piracy and drugs; Love conquers all. All I'm asking Footscray, is that you never forget me. Only you hold a special place in my heart, and nostrils. A portion reserved for non other, where else can one find I love like ours?
The white on my rice, the curry to my vegetables, the wasabi to my noodles. Footscray my dearest, you will never be forgotten as the place I once called home.
